CARE FOR CRITTERS

Dr. Erin Schroeder, owner of Cedar County Vet Services in Vermillion, Yankton, South Dakota and Hartington, Nebraska, said the clinic’s TNR program has helped 1,000 cats in its three service areas with 500 in Vermillion alone since 2009.

According to The Humane Society of the US, 3-4 million cats and dogs are killed in shelters in the United States every year.

Approximately 6.5 million companion animals enter U.S. animal shelters nationwide every year. Of those, approximately 3.3 million are dogs and 3.2 million are cats.

Help us to bring down the population of stray and feral cats, help us to bring down the number of animals that are given up each year, help us bring down the number of animals that are killed each year to make room for more animals in shelters, help us to make the world a better place for these animals.

Introducing a new student organization at The University of South Dakota: Care for Critters. This organization was created to give back to the community surrounding and in Vermillion, South Dakota. We are dedicated to helping animals who are not receiving the love and care that they deserve. We are a non-profit organization created with the intent only to give to the animals who so desperately want our love.

Although this is a student organization created at USD, we are open to help and support from the entire community. We will be having multiple events centered around the goal of helping animals - and we need all hands on board. Stay tuned for our upcoming events and let us know if you can help in any way!

We are always accepting donations for Humane Societies near you. We are willing to accept donations and transport them to Sioux Falls, Yankton, or Sioux City. We will be having fundraisers throughout the year in various shapes that all give back to the animals in some way.
